Were you told to eat ? Most people do not really know much about cholesterol. It is not that people purposely aims to have a high cholesterol level. It is a matter of not knowing the benefits and dangers of cholesterol. Knowledge of the subject can help you make the right choices in your diet and lifestyle. These right choices will save your life in the long run.

Cholesterol is a fatty substance that is necessary for bodily functions. It is needed to repair and maintain cell membranes. Our bodies produce its own cholesterol with the liver; these amounts are really what the body needs. When eating foods which are rich in cholesterol, obviously this is all excessive. The excess amounts of cholesterol become harmful to our bodies when in large quantities. Just like fat can be stored in our body, cholesterol can also. However, how it is stored provides a risk to our health.

Cholesterol is amassed in our arteries. For those who may not know, arteries are the blood vessels which transport blood away from the heart to the rest of the body. Take note that cholesterol is store in, not around the arteries. This implies that those small spaces in those arterial tubes can and will, be blocked. This happens when cholesterol is in such huge amounts that it fills up those spaces. When blood can't get back to the heart due to blockage, you get a heart attack. If blood is blocked to the brain, you get a stroke. People are known to die from heart attacks and strokes. Just make sure it is not you.

Here are things one can do to lower their cholesterol. You can't tell your liver to stop producing it; so the solution is to keep to a minimum the cholesterol you eat. By changing what one eats, a lot of good results can happen. Replace a lot of your meat with fish. Fish contains omega 3, which is known to lower cholesterol. Oats do the same. Nuts have polyunsaturated fat; this type of fat lowers bad cholesterol. Yogurt not only serves as a tasty snack for many, but it prevents cholesterol from being absorbed again into the blood.

Eating these foods will increase your chances of lowering your cholesterol levels. However, it is only the first step in the process. Discover more just visit this site - http://www.naturalcholesterolsupplements.com
